Crisis Therapy

Gentle help when life surprises you.

Crisis Therapy
Hope in itself is a kind of happiness, perhaps the most important kind that life can offer.— Samuel Johnson

People sometimes face unexpected events that exceed their ability to cope. In crisis therapy, painful events are processed and the person is gently supported towards the next step. Sometimes a crisis can be the end of something old and the beginning of something new.

When life changes suddenly

In a traumatic crisis, a person is affected by an unusually strong event that could cause psychological suffering to anyone. Anxiety, fear and restlessness are therefore not necessarily signs of a psychological disorder. They may be natural reactions to an exceptional situation.

Crisis therapy is usually short-term and can draw on psychodynamic, cognitive and solution-focused approaches. I do not apply one single method, but use different methods according to the crisis and the person.

A traumatic event can awaken a need to examine oneself and one's life more deeply. Earlier crises and painful childhood memories may become active again, and processing may then take time. In the therapy room we look together at the causes of the crisis and what the event means specifically to you.

We may also explore life history and development in order to find what is personally important and meaningful. Memento vivere — do not forget to live.

Good to know

Crisis therapy is usually short-term therapy. Anxiety, fear and restlessness after a traumatic event do not in themselves mean a psychological disorder.
