Couples Therapy

A safe place to hear one another and be heard.

Couples Therapy
It is better to build bridges than to build walls.— African proverb

Everyday life does not always go as hoped. Problems often develop gradually and are met with silence or avoidance. Eventually they may become too difficult to solve with one's own resources. Couples therapy can then offer a way to pause, understand what is happening and look for a new direction together.

New ways forward

Problems in a relationship may involve silence, poor communication, conflicts, a threat of separation, a crisis, an accident, illness or the death of someone close. Couples therapy can be useful even when the relationship has reached a point where separation cannot be avoided. It is valuable to try to understand one another and avoid bitterness, especially when there are children in the family.

By talking with a professional couples therapist, a couple can find new ways forward when their own resources are no longer enough. The therapist is impartial and bound by absolute confidentiality. It is best if both partners come together, but it is also possible to begin alone.

The aim is not to decide who is right. The aim is to make room for both experiences, strengthen dialogue and understand the patterns that have developed between the partners. Sometimes small changes in listening and responding can open a new possibility.

Practical information

A session lasts 90 minutes and meetings usually take place every 1–3 weeks. The continuation of therapy and the next appointment are always agreed together with the clients and therapist.
